Jewellery research – silver dogwood earrings and pendant

I found these lovely mid-century screwback earrings in a charity shop just before Christmas. They’re signed “STERLING” on the back, and there’s also a set of initials (“SB”) in an oval. A couple of minutes’ internet research later, I came up with a company name, namely Silverman Brothers. This company was started by Archibald and Charles Silverman in Providence, Rhode Island in 1897 and depending on where you look online, ceased trading in either the 1950s or 1960s.

There’s also a matching pendant, this time made by a different company – Lang Sterling, which also operated out of Providence. Their hallmark contains the word “STERLING”, where the letter “S” is in the shape of a swan.

Lost and found. And on sale: 25% off

Tonight I’ve just spent a very fraught two hours turning our workroom/office upside down. Why? Because I’d lost this beauty pictured above. In case you didn’t know, it’s by Finnish modernist designer Karl Laine and is available in my shop. I’d decided to photograph it on my phone so that I could use the picture to advertise my upcoming sale (more of which below) on Etsy Updates. My pendants are all kept in a box, but the Karl Laine pendant wasn’t amongst them. It wasn’t in the box where I keep necklaces and larger pendants either. It hadn’t fallen behind any bits of furniture, although I did find several other items there that I thought had been lost forever. Eventually I found it … in the old shoe box where I keep our envelopes. Wut.

Anyway, the sale is 25% off all orders over £8, and is on till this Sunday, September 9th.

Blue enamel Deco buckle

I won this lovely silver thing on eBay a few days ago, for all of £4.00 including postage:

Clearly it’s a buckle; I think it would have gone on the belt of a 1930s dress – one of those fitted dresses with a demure collar, a nipped-in waist and a flared skirt. There’s some damage to the enamel but it still looks good. I’m thinking I might thread it onto a piece of velvet ribbon and turn it into a bracelet.

Here is the back:

It’s stamped with a serial number (735426), a faint “925” and the word “Silver”.

Big, beautiful brooch sale. 30% off

Right now, there is a sale on in my Etsy shop, VintagepointUK. All brooches are marked at 30% off – there’s no need to enter a coupon code, just hit “Add to cart” and away you go. Offer closes midnight on October 15th.

At the time of posting there are thirty of these beauties, but here is a selection:
